ABOUT
One
of Loudoun's best venues for the arts is the Gateway Gallery
and Gift Shop! A cooperative market place for area artists,
it has a wide variety of ceramics, jewelry, painting,
glass, woodwork, and fiber works. Located adjacent to
the Round Hill Arts Center in refurbished space in the
old Hill High Orchard Building at the western edge of
Loudoun County, The Gateway Gallery welcomes visitors
from the Blue Ridge to the Beltway and beyond.
Local
artists came together to create a gallery of art and fine
craft in western Loudoun County. The Gateway Gallery and
Gift Shop operates as an artists cooperative, where
members show and sell their work and share in managing
and staffing the gallery.
The
gallery is located with other new ventures in the Hill
High Orchard building. This landmark destination is considered
by many as the gateway to rural western Loudoun. The Round
Hill Arts Center, offering art and music classes and events,
has already reopened at the site and is helping the group
of artists establish the cooperative gallery.
Membership
includes twenty-eight local artists representing an array
of media including painting and printmaking, photography,
pottery, fiberarts, woodturning, sculpture and jewelry.
Artworks and fine crafts by all members is exhibited and
sold in the gallery, and individual artists are featured
in rotating gallery shows. Member artists support the
gallery by staffing the gallery, serving on management
committees and helping with special exhibits and events.
The co-op President, Meredith Hilt, said Our founding
members worked enthusiastically to fine-tune the co-ops
operations and get the gallery ready. We love the location
and gallery space, and enjoy being part of an arts destination
in western Loudoun.
The
success of this gallery is based on the traffic both through
and past this busy location, and the excitement and support
of the Loudoun County Tourism Board and the Round Hill
Arts Center.
